Molly Orr
Strings Four
About Me
I started playing piano with my father when I was four and added Suzuki violin when I was five. Besides lessons, we played and sang as a family and in our church choir. Later, I earned a Bachelor's of Music in Violin Performance from the Townsend School of Music at Mercer University.

At Mercer, I had a professor who opened up the world of practicing and performing for me. And, as part of a chamber music ensemble, I discovered the joy of playing music with a small group of people. I loved knowing and hearing the other parts as we created music together. My college experience sealed my life-long commitment to music, and I have been performing and giving lessons ever since.

Now, I am wife to a veteran and mother to three beautiful children! My goal is to continue to build a music community, connecting musicians and students from each season of my life with on-going music instruction, experiences, and resources.
I look forward to getting to know you better!

Experience
Performing
Molly Orr is happy to be a new member of the Lynchburg community, and brings with her a lifetime of loving, playing, and teaching music, specializing in violin and viola. Some highlights of her musical life include her concerto debut as a young student playing a concerto by J.S. Bach, a position as concertmaster of an honor orchestra as a high school student, winning a chamber music competition as a member of a string quartet during her time at university, and earning her Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance from Mercer University in 2010. Other treasured times include professional performances with symphony orchestras, including performances with the Symphony of Southeast Texas in 2019, as well as many opportunities to play sacred music, both at churches across the East Coast and in the wider community and at home.
Teaching
The pursuit of excellence as a student herself, along with the experience of learning from a particularly insightful and skilled violin professor and taking her first college level pedagogy class, gave Molly a love for helping students reach their own musical goals. During her years of instructing, Molly has enjoyed teaching privately and with organizations including the Suzuki Talent Education Program in Atlanta, GA. Now, as a homeschooling mother of three children, Molly especially loves helping families integrate music study into daily life and community in simple, beautiful ways, whether that’s reaching for a youth orchestra experience, striving for a competition award, creating out-of-the box ways for students to learn and to share strings performance, or just starting “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” for the pure happiness of learning to make music! Every musical journey is different, and it’s a privilege any time I get to be a part of a student’s journey.
